Cinema, with all its glamour, red carpets, flash lights one after another, press conferences, smiles in front of rows of cameras, colorful and sparkling dresses, fame, money and popularity, also has another side: constant anxiety about rising production costs, long and exhausting sleepless nights, the high risk censorship, maintaining focus in the chaos of the scene, navigating through tangled wires and rails, assistants rushing to smooth out wrinkles on clothes, wiping the sweat off actors’ foreheads for a shiny appearance, creating silence during the capture of scenes, adjusting light, shaping shadows, the relentless effort of a team to capture a few seconds shot and then the next and the next, selecting one scene from many remaining scenes of a film. Filmmakers build their paradise films in such hell. Therefore, many of us fall into melancholy, longing, and extreme fatigue after finishing a film production. Some of us find salvation in seeking refuge in the next movie: jumping from one height to another, while others consider traveling or temporary alternative jobs. But the last group are those who retreat into their solitude and heal the pain of seventh art with other arts. By retreating into the white canvas, sketch books or the sculpture clay, they build their individual world in silence and tranquility, detached from the crowd they manifest a different form of creation in their individuality. What was forbidden, expensive, or impossible in cinema is now created in this “other side.” These are the filmmakers of the other side. Filmmakers known as directors, actors, or designers that no one knows they have experience in other media. Artistic experiences that don’t let depression, work pressure, unemployment, or censorship hold them back from creation. The reality is: art is the only refuge and the most powerful force that motivates us to continue. There is no other way, and that’s beautiful.
