  • In Condemnation of Audacity | Solo Exhibition | Second Floor | 28August to 11 September | Affsoongar

Affsoongar is a feminine alter ego, a figure formed at the intersection of myth, imagination, nature, and lived experience. The world she inhabits is filled with signs, narratives, and beings that move between reality and fantasy. At times defiant and at times vulnerable, her presence becomes a space for reflecting on individuality, imagination, and our relationship with the world around us.

In Affsoongar’s works, human figures appear alongside animals, plants, and mythical creatures, creating a network of symbolic and narrative relationships. Her imagery draws on various traditions of Iranian art and visual culture, including Persian miniature painting, coffeehouse painting, and ancient mythology. Yet these elements are removed from their familiar contexts and reassembled within a personal and contemporary visual world—one in which the boundaries between reality and imagination, tradition and individual experience, are continually shifting.

In Reproach of Boldness begins with a contradiction: where does the boundary between boldness and restraint lie, and when does stepping beyond the familiar become a new way of seeing and narrating?

The works in this exhibition were created across different periods and circumstances. Brought together, they trace the development of Affsoongar’s visual world and offer an encounter with some of its lesser-seen dimensions—a world moving between memory, mythology, nature, and imagination.

Here, Affsoongar stands between the familiar and the unknown, vulnerability and strength, restraint and boldness. Perhaps In Reproach of Boldness, rather than passing judgment on boldness itself, is ultimately a question about the boundaries through which we define it.
